Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Franklin Co. JAMES DABNEY TODD, a native of Gallatin County, Ky., was born October 17, 1827, and is a son of Judge Samuel and Monarch (Fenwick) Todd, natives of Virginia and Maryland respectively. Judge Todd removed from Virginia to Gallatin County in 1811, and represented the county in the Legislature that year. He settled in Frankfort about 1832, practiced law, and was elected circuit judge about the year 1832. He died in 1858 in his eighty-fourth year. James D. Todd was reared in Frankfort, mostly educated under B. B. Sayre, and afterward attended St. Mary's College in Marion County. He read law under his father, but never practiced. He was married, October 17, 1847, to Miss Mary L. Bosworth, a native of Lexington, daughter of David H. and Minerva (Steffee) Bosworth, natives of Fayette and Bourbon Counties, of Welsh and English origin. Eleven children were born to this union: Ellen, Louis, Georgia, David, Samuel Dabney, Minnie, Eloise, Lyda (deceased), Mattie, Frank and Mary. Mr. Todd died October 21, 1876, leaving his widow about 200 acres of excellent land in Franklin County.
