Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Franklin Co. OWEN TINSLY, a native of Franklin County, was born December 2, 1847, and is a son of Charles E. and Harriet E. (Medley) Tinsly. The father was born in Virginia, and is a son of Henry Tinsly; the mother was born in Kentucky. Owen Tinsly was reared in Franklin County, and received a common school education. On October 1, 1874, he married Miss Susie Darlington of Shelby County, daughter of James and Kittie (Pemberton) Darlington. One child has blessed this union, Samuel L., born December 13, 1878. Mr. Tinsly was successfully engaged in merchandising at Graefenburg, Ky., for about twelve years. The rest of his life he has spent in farming, stock raising and stock trading, owning 500 acres. He deals extensively in horses--buys and takes to Louisville and sells. He belongs to the Methodist Church South, and as a citizen is popular and companionable, and enjoys the respect and confidence of all who know him.
