THOMPSON was born June 20, 1848, in Fayette County, Ky., and is a son of William B. and Sarah (Franklin) Thompson, natives respectively of Franklin County, Ky., and of Virginia. At the age of eighteen, George F. Thompson entered Centre College at Danville, and graduated in 1869; he began the study of medicine at Lexington under Dr. J. W. Foster; in 1874 he graduated from the hospital college, and in 1875 opened practice at Lexington and at the Forks of Elkhorn. He had served under Morgan in Capt. Howard Smith's company of the Fifth Kentucky Cavalry from the fall of 1862 until the close of the war, and had been wounded at Mount Sterling and at Columbia, Ky. In November, 1877, he married Miss Kate Byrne, of Mason County, and there have been born to him three children: Lillie Agnes, William T. and Lewis B. The Doctor is a Free Mason and an Odd Fellow.
