JOSEPH ROBINSON is a native of Franklin County, born December 18, 1823, and is the fourth son of Owen and Sarah (Gibson) Robinson, both natives of Culpeper County, Va. Owen Robinson was born March 10, 1770, and was of Scotch-English origin. He came to Franklin County about 1810, and died August 5, 1833. Joseph Robinson was reared on the farm and educated at the common schools, and commenced life as a farmer. He was deputy sheriff under William T. Herndon, under the old constitution, and was city marshal from 1847 to 1853. He was elected sheriff of the county in 1866 and served six years. He is a director of the Branch Bank of Kentucky, and president of the Frankfort and Louisville, Benson and Harrisonville and Bridgeport Turnpikes. He was married, in December, 1852, to Miss Eliza Robb, a native of Frankfort, and a daughter of Frederick Robb, a native of Maryland, of German descent. To the marriage of Mr. Robinson have been born four children, two of whom are living: Sallie M., married to Charles Newton, of St. Louis, and Susan M., married to B. T. Farmer, of Lawrenceburg, Ky. Two are deceased: Mattie T. and Lettie Davis. Mr. Robinson is a member of the Presbyterian CHurch South, and was chief promoter in building the Southern Church in Frankfort.
