Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Franklin Co. CHARLES P. MITCHELL was born December 29, 1838, and is the eldest son of Samuel and Nancy (Taylor) Mitchell, the former of whom was born in Franklin County January 4, 1812, and the latter in Woodford County, where also Charles P. was born. Samuel Mitchell, the paternal grandfather of Charles P., was born in Pennsylvania, and was a captain in the war of 1812. Joseph F. Taylor, the maternal grandfather of Charles P. Mitchell, was born in Culpeper County, Va., and was also a captain in the war of 1812. Charles P. Mitchell was reared a farmer, was educated in the common schools, and December 2, 1869, married Bettie Black, daughter of Samuel and Nancy (Guyn) Black of Woodford County. Of the seven children born to this union, six are living: Ida B., Eudora E., Guy A., Nannie J., Samuel R., and Lucy S. In 1874 Charles P. Mitchell was elected justice of the peace, and has held the office ever since, being now in his fourth term. He is a member of the I.O.O.F, and with his wife of the Christian Church, and is the owner of 136 acres of good land. Ida B. and Eudora E. Mitchell, are members of the Presbyterian Church.
