Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Franklin Co. JOHN T. DEAKINS, born in Shelby County, Ky., September 9, 1829, is a son of John W. and Nancy (Mann) Deakins, both natives of Kentucky. John W. is a son of John and Polly (White) Deakins. Grandfather John was born in Virginia; immigrated to Kentucky in an early day, and was a farmer all his life. John T. Deakins lived in Shelby County until 1849, then moved with his father to Franklin County. He was educated at the common schools, and was successfully engaged in farming and stock raising up to 1880, and was also merchandising for seven years of the time. He then settled at Belle Point, Franklin County, which is just across the Kentucky River from Frankfort. Immediately after locating he was engaged by the Farmers' Tobacco Warehouse Company, of Louisville, Ky, as their agent or buyer for this section of the country. Mr. Deakins is a fine business man and his firm values him highly. He not only aids the firm with his labor but assists it financially, which he is fully able to do. February 27, 1851, he married Miss Mary Woodside of Henry County, Ky., daughter of Alexander and Susan (Rose) Woodside. Six children were born to this union, of whom five are living: John C., who married Sallie Moore at Shelby County, Ky., (they had four children: William J., Omer, Howard and Luly); the second born was Annie M., who married Joseph Stivens of Shelby County, Ky., a son of William and Nancy (Shuck) Stivens (they had four children: Nancy B., Owen T., Mary E. and Curtis); the third child, Owen C., married Nancy Moore of Shelby County, a daughter of George and Sarah (Hughes) Moore, and had one child, Curtis: the fourth is named Ezra T.; and the fifth, Alice B., who married J. A. Violett, of Franklin County (they had three children: Luther F., Mary W., and Walter B). Mr. and Mrs. Deakins are members of the Baptist Church. Mr. Deakins' address is Frankfort, Ky.
