Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Franklin Co. DR. WM. LEE CRUTCHER, born in Frankfort June 27, 1844, is a son of William L. and Susan A. (Scearce) Crutcher. The father was born in Woodford County, and is a son of Elder Isaac and Nancy (Grady) Crutcher, Elder Crutcher being one of the pioneer preachers in the Christian Church. The mother was born in Woodford County, near Versailles, and is a daughter of Henry and America (Berry) Scearce, and granddaughter of Capt. Samuel Berry, of Woodford County. Dr. Crutcher was educated at the common schools and B. B. Sayre's high school of Frankfort. When a boy he read medicine off and on with his father, and in after years with Dr. T. M. Hedden, of Henry County. He attended lectures in 1865 and 1866 at the Physio-Medical Institute, Cincinnati, Ohio, and returned to Kentucky, and from the first, at Bagdad, Shelby Co., Ky., secured a good and successful practice among the best citizens. For the last ten or twelve years he has been giving much of his time to farming and stock raising, having a large land interest in Franklin and Anderson Counties of several hundred acres. He has been living since 1876 near Bridgeport, in Franklin County, He married, December 19, 1872, Miss Helen E. Hodges, of Franklin County, daughter of T. P. and Mary Hodges. Her father is a son of W. H. Hodges, who came from near Richmond, Va., in early days and settled in Franklin County. Her mother is a daughter of Benjamin Moring, who also came from Virginia and settled in Anderson County. Four children have blessed this union; three of them now living: Ethel F., Paul T. and Mary L.
