Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 5th ed., 1887, Franklin Co. ALEX. F. CRICHTON, general manager of the Kentucky River Mills, was born in Perth County, Scotland, and is a son of Andrew and Janet (Frazier) Crichton. He came to the United States in May, 1871, and remained in Brooklyn two years as general superintendent of a carpet manufactory; then resigned to go to Lewiston, Me., and was superintendent of the manufacture of No. 2 Lewiston seamless bags, jute and cotton twine for four and one- half years; then went to Muncie, Ind., to superintend the erection of a mill, and was only a few months in getting it in running order, and then went to New York City to accept a position as superintendent of a jute-mill and was engaged from 1878 to 1882. In 1882 he resigned and came to Frankfort, Ky.; was at once employed as general superintendent of the Kentucky River Mills in which he is now also a stock-holder. They employ about ninety hands the year around. The mill is built of brick, is 53x240 feet, one story high, with five brick warehouses, one two story, four one story, 38x70 feet each. Mr. Crichton was married in May, 1877, to Miss Hattie M. Steele, of Holden, Me., daughter of Andrew and Eunora (Mann) Steele. Two children have blessed this union: Alex. F., Jr., born November 2, 1878; Janet H., born October 20, 1880. Mr. Crichton and wife are members of the Presbyterian Church. As a superintendent Mr. Crichton is industrious, energetic and painstaking, and always endeavors to cultivate a spirit of friendship.
