Floyd County

JAMES M. LACKEY was born in Floyd County, Ky., July 25, 1812, and is a son
of Alexander and Mary (Morgan) Lackey, natives of Pittsylvania County, Va.,
who came to Floyd County in 1804.  Alexander Lackey was born in 1772, was
for eleven years a member of the Kentucky Legislature under the old
constitution, afterward a magistrate and subsequently a sheriff.  He died in
December, 1863.  Our subject's maternal grandfather, David Morgan, a
Revolutionary soldier from Virginia, settled in Floyd County in 1799, and
was a member of the State Legislature when he was killed in 1815.  James M.
Lackey settled in Prestonburg in the spring of 1830, and engaged in stock
driving and selling goods in partnership with John P. Martin.  He was a
member of the Constitutional Convention of 1849; was formerly a Captain in
the State Militia, and is now selling goods.  Politically he is a Democrat
and Prohibitionist, by the action of the States.
