Floyd County

Dr. CHARLES S. CALLIHAN was born in Barbour County, W. VA., December 2,
1837, and is a son of John and Malinda (Chrislik) Callihan, natives of the
same county, and of Irish descent.  He was reared on the home farm, and was
educated at Wellsville (Ohio) Seminary and at Otterheim College, Ohio, from
which latter he graduated in 1857.  He then began the study of medicine in
his native county, entered the Eclectic Medical College at Philadelphia,
graduated in 1860, and commenced practice at Philippi, Barbour County, W.
Va.  In 1861 he joined the Thirty-first Regiment Virginia Infantry, C.S.A.,
as Surgeon, and served until the close of the war, when for awhile he
returned to his home.  November 25, 1866, he came to Kentucky and entered
upon the practice of his profession at Prestonburg, Floyd County, where he
is still practicing the Eclectic theory.  April 13, 1862, he married Miss
Maggie Daniels, of Barbour County, W.Va., who has borne him six children,
viz: Laura Bells, Amma Alice, Mary L., Josie B., William R.D. and Grover
Darwin.  The Doctor is a Democrat, and has served as Postmaster of
Prestonburg.
