Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, ed. 8-B, 1887 Fleming County LAWSON S. POWER was born in Fleming County, Ky., July 14, 1826, and is the ninth in a family of thirteen children born to John and Sarah (Seybold) Power. John Power, a native of Virginia, and a son of Joseph Power, was born November 30, 1787, was a farmer by occupation, and died October 4, 1840, a member of the Baptist Church. Mrs. Sarah Power was a daughter of Jasper and Nancy (Carroll) Seybold, originally from Virginia. She was born September 11, 1793, and died January 15, 1867. Lawson S. Power was reared on a farm and educated in the common schools. He has always been engaged in agricultural pursuits. He served in the Union army, Company H, Tenth Kentucky Cavalry, thirteen months, being detailed to hospital work. In 1867 he married Mrs. Ruth Seybold, widow of Joshua Seybold, and a daughter of Daniel Carr, of Pennsylvania, and of German descent. She died April 18, 1886, a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. Mr. Power is a member of the Baptist Church.
