HENDERSON was born in Fleming County, Ky., in 1816, and is the second in a family of six children born to Alexander and Elizabeth (Morrison) Henderson. Alexander Henderson, a native of Virginia, was a son of David, who was born in Ireland. Mrs. Elizabeth Henderson was a daughter of Major Morrison, of Fleming County, who was a farmer and soldier. T.A. Henderson was born and reared on a farm, and when sixteen years of age engaged in merchandising at Flemingsburg, he subsequently located in Mt. Gilead for a short time and at Mt. Carmel in 1845, where he has been engaged in the same business most of the time since. In 1838 he married Harriet Quaintance (a daughter of William Quaintance), who died in 1875, the mother of three children, of whom one is living, Claude. In 1878 Mr. Henderson married Nancy Glasscock, a daughter of Newman Glasscock, and a member of an old and prominent family of Virginia, who were early settlers of Kentucky. Mrs. Henderson is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, while Mr. Henderson has been a member of the Presbyterian Church for twenty-five years.
