HISTORY OF FAYETTE COUNTY, KENTUCKY, by Robert Peter, ed. By William H. Perrin, O. L. Baskin Co., Chicago, 1882. Reprinted by Southern Historical Press, Easley, SC, 1979. JOHN H. DARNABY, farmer, P. O. Chilesburg, son of Edward and Mildred (Ellis) Darnaby, was born October 28, 1805. His father was born in Spotsylvania County, Va., in April, 1765. After living in Lincoln County a few years, they removed to near Bryant's Station. About the end of the last century Edward settled on the farm now owned by his son, and there resided till his death, in 1845. He was for may years connected with the Baptist Church, and was known as a breeder of draft horses. His three surviving children are Names, Nancy (Mrs. Hanton) and John H. The latter, in his boyhood, assisted in working the farm on which he was born. Receiving a good education, he began teaching school at the age of twenty-one years; taught for twelve years consecutively, and then returned to the farm. In 1837, he married Mildred, daughter of Boswell Mitchell, and granddaughter of Richard Mitchell, an early settler on David's Fork of the Elkhorn River. She died in 1849, and Mr. Darnaby took as his second wife Mary, daughter of James Stuart. Of this union there were two children- Samuel, dead, and Susie, living. Mr. Darnaby has long been of the Baptist communion. His farm of 440 acres is on the Lexington & Winchester pike, eight miles from the county seat.
