Historical Sketches of Kentucky by Lewis Collins, Maysville, KY. and J. A. & U. P. James, Cincinnati, 1847. Reprinted 1968. Fayette County. NATHAN BURROWS was also among the first settlers of Lexington. About the year 1796, he introduced into Kentucky the manufacture of hemp - being the pioneer in that branch of manufacturers; but through the unworthiness of agents, he never reaped any advantage from it. He afterwards established a manufactory of mustard in Lexington, and produced the unrivalled article which still bears his name. He died in 1841.
