HISTORY OF FAYETTE COUNTY, KENTUCKY, by Robert Peter, ed. by William H. Perrin, O. L. Baskin Co., Chicago, 1882. Reprinted by Southern Historical Press, Easley, SC, 1979. RABORN BAKER, farmer and stockraiser, P. O. Lexington, son of Boswell and Elizabeth (Shiflet) Baker, was born in Madison county, Ky., in the year 1842. His father was also a native of Madison county, and a son of one of the early Virginian residents in that part of the state, another Boswell Baker. His mother, too, was of Madison County, and a daughter of Thomas Shiflet, a pioneer from Virginia. Our subject moved to Fayette County in 1858, and his regular occupation since that time has been that in which he is at present engaged. In the late civil war, he took part with the South, and became on of Morgan's men; but, being captured during the Ohio raid, he was held a prisoner, first at Camp Chase, and then at Camp Douglas, till released by exchange. His brother, Lilburn, was also with Morgan; but two other brothers, Melvin and Sanford, fought for the Union. These four brothers are yet living, as is also a sister named Susan Jane. For about five years, Mr. Baker was a Trustee of Athens, where he owns a house and lot valued at $900; but his chief possession is his farm, on which he handles a good many cattle, though his principal pride is in his fine stud of horses. His wife is Susan, daughter of Jeremiah Stivers, of Fayette County; and his family consists of six children, all of whom live with their parents. Mr. Baker belongs to the brotherhood of Masons, and he, his wife and two daughters, are members of the Christian Church.
