"A HISTORY OF THE DAVIESS-McLEAN BAPTIST ASSOCIATION IN KENTUCKY, 1844-1943" by Wendell H. Rone, Probably published in 1944 by Messenger Job Printing Co., Inc., Owensboro, Kentucky. Used by permission. p. 283. Daviess Co. JOHN WELDON: This is another pioneer preacher of whom we have learned few particulars. He and Elder Benjamin Tolbert constituted Rock Spring Church (Yelvington) on June 30, 1813. Elder Weldon was called as the first pastor and served until May, 1816. He helped to organize Highland Church, in Union County, on March 17, 1812. Records also show him as pastor of Grave Creek Church, in Henderson County, from 1810 to 1813. He was a member of the presbytery in the formation of Bethel Church in the same county on June 4, 1813. Having been a member of the Grave Creek Church he became a constituent member of this church. Bethel called him as her first pastor. After this we lose him and find no other record of his labors. He probably went on further west. No dates of his birth or death have been found. He is the founding grandfather of the First Baptist Church of Owensboro as most of the constituent members came to this church from the Yelvington Church of which he was the founder.
