[Daviess] DEACON ABRAHAM LINCOLN WAITE : This beloved brother and father of two sons in the ministry was born near Derby, Perry County, Indiana, on July 31; 1864, and is the son of George Amsey and Rebecca Waite. He grew up on a farm and attended the common schools at hand. For the first forty-two years of his life he followed the occupation of farming. For about thirty years he engaged in the general merchandise business at Newman, Daviess County, Kentucky During this time he served as Postmaster for twenty-nine years and as railroad agent for the Louisville and Nashville Railroad Company at the same place. He has been retired from active business since September, 1940. Mr. Waite was converted in the Methodist Church at Old Oakford, Kentucky, in July, 1891; and by the end of that month he became a member of the Birk City Baptist Church (now Stanley) by profession and baptism, being baptized by Elder B. Y. Cundiff. When the Birk City Church moved to Stanley and became the Stanley Baptist Church we find him being ordained as a deacon of this Church in the year 1898. The Newman Baptist Church was organized in 1910 and Mr. Waite became a charter member of this new Church and was very active and helpful in leading this young Church to reach her present height of usefulness. He is the senior deacon of the church and has now served two churches as deacon for a period of forty-five years. He has also served his church as Assistant Moderator, Secretary and Treasurer of the Sunday School, and as a Sunday School Teacher. For several years he was the representative of his Church on the Executive Mission Board of the Association. Our brother was united in marriage to Miss Jeanette Tharp in November, 1891, at Owensboro, Kentucky. Seven children have blessed this happy marriage, Vessie Lee, B. F., Mary Elizabeth, E. E., Madeline, Lloyd B., and Floyd B. Rev. B. F. Waite served for twelve years as the pastor of the Hall Street Baptist Church, Owensboro, Kentucky, and is now located at Truman, Arkansas. He also reared one foster son, John H. Dodd. Mr. Waite has read the Bible consecutively thirty-one times. His life has been a benediction to all who have gained his acquaintance. One other son, E. E. Waite, is an ordained Baptist preacher and resides in Louisville, Kentucky.
