"A HISTORY OF THE DAVIESS-McLEAN BAPTIST ASSOCIATION IN KENTUCKY, 1844-1943" by Wendell H. Rone. Probably published in 1944 by Messenger Job Printing Co., Inc., Owensboro, Kentucky, p. 434. Used by permission. [Daviess] DR. AND MRS. E. DARGAN SMITH: Even though they had no connection with this Association until after their return from China it is fitting that we make mention of the work of Dr. and Mrs. E. Dargan Smith, who served as missionaries of the Foreign Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention in China, from 1921 to 1928. They first went to Kweilin, South China, the year when the new hospital was opened. In 1925 they were forced to leave Kweilin on account of the troublesome political conditions and they moved to Canton where they were connected with the Leung Kwong Baptist Hospital. This Hospital is financially supported by the Chinese of the Leung Kwong Association, but American doctors are on its staff. They returned to America in 1928 and Dr. Smith has practiced his profession in Owensboro, Kentucky, since that time. He is one of the noted surgeons of this section of Kentucky. His membership was with the First Baptist Church for some time after his return but is now, along with his family, with the Buena Vista Church, of which he is a leading and influential member serving in the office of deacon.
