"A HISTORY OF THE DAVIESS-McLEAN BAPTIST ASSOCIATION IN KENTUCKY, 1844-1943" by Wendell H. Rone. Probably published in 1944 by Messenger Job Printing Co., Inc., Owensboro, Kentucky, p. 347. Used by permission. [Daviess] A. B. SMITH: Very little is known of this man of God. Enough is known, however, to create a longing to know more. He was born about the year 1828 and was a graduate of Georgetown College. The first record we have of him is as pastor of the First Baptist Church in Owensboro, which pastorate he entered into in April, 1856. He served acceptably and well until September, 1858. The other churches that he served in Daviess County Association were: Bell's Run, 1863-1864; Curdsville, 1869-1870; Beaver Dam, 1871, Bethlehem, 1879-1881; and New Hope, 1884-1885. He also served Pond Run, Green River, and Rochester Churches, in 1875-1876. He first married Miss Sarah Gilespie, who died in September. 1866. We do not know the maiden name of his second wife. He had two sons by his first wife but no children by his second. He died at Rockport, Ohio County, Kentucky, on April 8, 1898, at the age of seventy. His ministry was notable and useful. Here the curtain falls. We can but wish to know more about him but must be content to wait until the curtain is drawn aside and the now hidden things brought to view. Until then, these few lines are inscribed to his memory. Smith Gilespie = Ohio-KY http://www.rootsweb.com/~kygenweb/kybiog/daviess/smith.ab.txt
