Used by permission. [Daviess] WILLIAM SANFORD SHIPP: W. S. Shipp was born at Hammondville, Kentucky, on October 9, 1874, the son of James H. and Eliza F. Shipp. He was born again on August 5, 1891, and was baptized into the fellowship of Three Forks of Bacon Creek Church by Elder W. J. Puckett. He attended the public schools and graduated from Bethel College, Russellville, Kentucky, with the A.B. Degree, in 1909. He also spent one term in the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville in the year 1916. In his early years our brother served as a farmer, store clerk, and school teacher. He preached his first sermon in December, 1901, and was licensed to preach in February, 1902. His ordination took place at his home Church on June 28, 1905, with Elders B. F. Hagan, H. S. Bell, W. T. Parrish, J. H. Hodges, C. W. Bowles, and S. E. Humphreys serving as the ordaining council. Our subject has pastored the following Churches: Little Hope, Tennessee; Blooming Grove, Kirkwood, Little West Fork, in Cumberland Association, Kentucky; New Hope, Bethel Association, Kentucky; William's Chapel, Dotsonville, Pikeville, Big Spring, Stithton, Hill Grove, Big Spring ( Salem Association ), Ekron (twice), all in Kentucky and in different Associations; Stanley, Mt. Liberty, Sacramento, Panther Creek, Mt. Vernon, Old Buck Creek, Pleasant Ridge, Rumsey, and Red Hill, all in Daviess-McLean Association; Spring Creek, Muldraugh, Raymond, and Mt. Carmel, all in Kentucky; and Geary, Oklahoma. His periods of service in this Association were in the years 1919-1925 and 1929-1933. He has also served as a colporter and missionary on two different occasions. He served as Moderator of the Caddo Association in Oklahoma and has preached several annual and doctrinal sermons before Kentucky Associations. William Newbolt was ordained at the Panther-Creek Church during his pastorate there. Bro. Shipp has been married twice. First, to Miss Sudie Hudgen. One son was born to this union. After her death he married Miss Hannah Stith. His first marriage was in 1910. Six sons and one daughter were born to the second union. He now makes his home at Pleasant Ridge, Daviess County, Kentucky, and for some time has not been able to preach because of the condition of his health. His has been a faithful ministry.
