In 1835 he moved to Kentucky and lived in Shelby and Henry counties till 1859. He then moved to Grayson County and lived till Jan. 1, 1883, when he came to Daviess County. He was married Sept. 26, 1839, to Elizabeth Shuck, a native of Henry County, born Sept. 30, 1819. She died Sept. 27, 1879. Nine children were born to them, seven now living--Matilda, Jane, James W., Nancy, David, Elizabeth, Louisa, Archelaus, Johnston E. Jan. 13, 1883, Mr. Mitchell married Mrs. Sarah F. Brooks. She owns a farm a mile west of Owensboro, where they now reside. Mr. Mitchell owns a farm of 127 acres in Grayson County, worth about $2,000. Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell are members of the Christian church. He is a member of Pilgrim Lodge, No. 545, A. F. & A. M., in Grayson County.
