MATTINGLY was born in Breckinridge County, Ky., Nov. 6, 1839, and is a son of James Mattingly, of Owensboro. Mr. Mattingly was reared a farmer's boy, and received a common-school education. He came to this county in 1866 where he has since lived except two years, which time he resided in Cloverport, Ky. He was married April 6, 1868, to Miss Lou Long, daughter of Richard N. Long. This union has been blessed with six children, of whom four are living--Thomas, Marietta, Richard B. and Ernest. Mr. Mattingly owns fifty acres of land, three-quarters of a mile east of Knottsvville [sic], on the Hardinsburg road, and is engaged in general farming. He is the mail-route contractor between Owensboro and Cloverport via Yelvington and Knottsville. He and family are Catholics.
