"A HISTORY OF THE DAVIESS-McLEAN BAPTIST ASSOCIATION IN KENTUCKY, 1844-1943" by Wendell H. Rone. Probably published in 1944 by Messenger Job Printing Co., Inc., Owensboro, Kentucky, pp. 467-468. Used by permission. [Daviess] DEACON GEORGE ALONZO LIKINS: This beloved brother has been a faithful deacon in the Walnut Street Church for many years. He was born near Rockport Ferry, Daviess County, Kentucky, on October 27, 1864, and is the son of Joseph and Artimesa Husk Likins. He grew up on a farm and attended the common schools of the county. He has followed the occupation of farming most of his life. He was converted under the preaching of Elder D. E. Yeiser and was baptized into the fellowship of the Curdsville Church by Elder T. L Brooks. He was ordained as a deacon of this Church in June, 1908, and served the Curdsville Church prior to that time as Moderator, Clerk, and Sunday School Superintendent. He has served the Walnut Street Church as deacon since February, 1910. He has been the representative of this Church on the Executive Mission Board for a number of years. He was married on October 8, 1889, to Miss Eliza Sandefur; two sons and one daughter were born to this union. Mrs. Likins died on April 16, 1898, and he later married Mrs. Jennie Mullen. In his activities in the Churches he has helped to erect houses of worship, organize three Churches, ordain other deacons, and many other things that have caused the Churches to make progress. Mr. Likins is an old-fashioned Baptist and takes great pride in his faith and is uncompromising in his denominational views. Yet, he is an humble and considerate man loved by a host of people.
