LANHAM (deceased), farmer, of Masonville Precinct, was one of the old settlers of Daviess County and was born in Washington County, Ky. He was a son of Osborn and Rachel Lanham. John W. came to Daviess County, Ky., at a very early date when a young man. In December, 1828, he married Letitia Jackson. After his marriage he rented the farm now owned by W. W. Shoemaker two years; then settled on the old homestead farm in Masonville Precinct. He died Aug. 15, 1851. Mrs. Lanham is still living with her son Samuel on the old homestead farm. She and husband had nine children, three living--Samuel, born Feb. 15, 1832; first married Elizabeth Sparks, who died leaving two children--Oliver, born Aug. 30, 1857, and Josephine, April 8, 1861, married James Johnson. After the mother's death Mr. Lanham married Mary M. Rogers, July 26, 1866. She was born in Nelson County, and was a daughter of Matthew and Catherine (Kendall) Rogers. Mr. and Mrs. Lanham have had five children--Evelina F., born July 4, 1870; Charles S., born May 29, 1873; Catherine L., born Jan. 25, 1876; Emma F., born Feb. 17, 1879; John W., born Jan. 17, 1882. Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Lanham are members of the Baptist church. He resides on the old homestead farm of his father in Masonville Precinct. Margaret married James Ware. They had nine children.
