"A HISTORY OF THE DAVIESS-McLEAN BAPTIST ASSOCIATION IN KENTUCKY, 1844-1943" by Wendell H. Rone. Probably published in 1944 by Messenger Job Printing Co., Inc., Owensboro, Kentucky, pp. 327-328. Used by permission. [Daviess] EDLOE PENDLETON JONES: This beloved preacher was a brother of the renowned Baptist pulpit orator, Carter Helm Jones. He was born in Nelson County, Virginia. As to the exact date we are not informed. The earliest record of his life that we have is his graduation from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville in 1889. He had previously been licensed to preach by the First Baptist Church of Richmond, Virginia, in June, 1881. His ordination occurred at the First Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia on June 30, 1890. He was immediately called to the care of the 10th Street Baptist Church in Atlanta but remained only a few months. He next accepted a call to the Duffy Street Church in Savannah, Georgia, serving it from 1891 to 1893. During the year 1894 he served as a Missionary of the Home Mission Board to the Island of Cuba. He returned to take charge of the pastorate of the Church at Clifton Forge, Virginia, serving in 1896 and 1897. From there he went to Columbus, Mississippi, and remained during the years 1897-1900. On September 5, 1900, he was unnaimou [sic] called to the pastorate of the First Baptist Church in Owensboro, Ky. He remained until February 1904, when he resigned to go elsewhere. From here we have lost all trace of his remarkable ministry. He returned in May, 1935, to take part in the Centennial Program of the First Church. From the best information we can receive he died about the year 1938. He preached the Annual Sermon before the Association in 1902.
