Used by permission. [Daviess] RICE EVANS GREGORY: Rice Evans Gregory grew up within the bounds of the Daviess-McLean Baptist Association, having been born on October 8, 1895, near Sorgho, Daviess County, Kentucky. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jesse E. Gregory. He was converted in the year 1907 during a revival at Pleasant Grove Church conducted by Elder W. M. Wood. He was baptized soon thereafter into the fellowship of the Pleasant Grove Church by Pastor T. M. Mortori. His experience of grace occurred while he was at home churning for his mother. In his youth he attended the grade schools at hand and spent his youth and early manhood on a farm. At the age of twenty-two he worked for the Telephone Company and in 1920 began to work in a Planing Mill in Owensboro, Kentucky. This occupation he followed for three years. He then followed the carpenter's trade until he went to Bethel College in the year 1925. He had previously been licensed to preach by the Pleasant Grove Church on March 18, 1917. He was ordained to the ministry by this same Church on August 6, 1926, with Elders J. H. Winstead, J. N. Phillips, W. C. Boone, J. J. Willett, J. C. Lilly, Norris Lashbrook, C. J. Bruner, Russell Walker, J. A. Bennett, and D. Arthur Dailey serving as the presbytery. Since his ordination he has served the following Churches: Paradise, Muhlenberg County, 1926-1928; Barren River, Warren County, six months in 1926; Curdsville, Daviess County, 1927-1934; Bethel Church, Henderson County, 1928-1931; Mt. Vernon, McLean County, 1933- 1934; Pleasant Hill, Ohio County, 1937-1940; Fordsville, Ohio County, 1934-1941; Pleasant Grove, Daviess County, since January, 1941. He served as the Assistant Moderator of the Ohio County Association in 1940 and preached the doctrinal sermon before the same body in 1936 and the annual sermon in 1939. In the period 1918-1933 and since 1941 he has been a member of the Executive Mission Board of the Association. While at the Curdsville Church the entire building was repaired, repainted, and redecorated. A new baptistry [sic] was built at the Fordsville Church and a new Sunday School annex added during his pastorate there. About 115 new members were added to the membership of the Church also. Mrs. Gregory is the former Miss Ruth B. English, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. B. English. They have two children, Kathryn E. and Rice E. Jr. They were married about the year 1918.
