Used by permission. [Daviess] SAMUEL CRAWFORD COOTS: Sam C. Coots, as he is familiarly known, is the eldest child of John S. and Fannie Miller Coots, and was born near Masonville, Daviess County, Kentucky, on February 2, 1890. He grew up on the farm .and received his education from the schools at hand and later attended the Owensboro High School and the Western State Normal at Bowling Green, Kentucky. For a period of two years he worked in a law office with his uncle. Beginning in the year 1911 and continuing until the year 1940 he followed the business of banking. For a number of years he served as the Cashier of the National Deposit Bank, Owensboro, Kentucky. Our brother was converted in the year 1902 and was baptized into the fellowship of the Bethabara Baptist Church by Rev. W. H. Dawson, the pastor. After being a member of other Baptist Churches for some time he became a member by letter of the First Baptist Church in 1918. For a period of sixteen years he served this Church as Treasurer. Since the year 1920 he has served on the Board of Deacons. For five years he served as the Treasurer of the Mission Board of the Association and in the years 1936 and 1937 served as the Assistant Moderator. In the years 1938 and 1939 he filled well the office of Moderator, being the fourth layman to occupy that position. Mr. Coots married Miss Mabel Glenn, a sister of Delbert J. Glenn, on June 20, 1916. They have one daughter, Rachel, who is the wife of Mr. G. Wallace Thacker, Attorney-at-law. Like his father before him our brother takes his stand in hearty accord with the principles of Baptists and is a Christian gentleman of the highest order. Sam C.
