Hazel & Co., Knottsville, was born in Clay County, Mo., Aug. 10, 1834, and is a son of Charles Clements (deceased). He was brought to this county by his parents in 1843. He worked on a farm until 1868, when he began to keep a hotel and a whisky and beer saloon; this he continued till 1874, when he engaged in the mercantile business. In 1878 he sold his interest in the store, and since then has been engaged in buying tobacco. He was married March 25, 1856, to Appalonia Montgomery, by whom he had ten children, nine living--Lucy A., Jane O., Henry A., Mary A., Robert F., Lucy E., Clara E., Lillie M. and Genevieve.
