"A HISTORY OF THE DAVIESS-McLEAN BAPTIST ASSOCIATION IN KENTUCKY, 1844-1943" by Wendell H. Rone. Probably published in 1944 by Messenger Job Printing Co., Inc., Owensboro, Kentucky, pp. 374-375. Used by permission. [Daviess] ALONZO FRANKIN CAGLE, D.D.: This outstanding minister of the Gospel was born in the town of Beirne, Arkansas, on July 25, 1885, and is the son of A. H. and Annice Lee Cagle. His early days were spent on a farm and he followed the occupation of a farmer in his early life. His educational opportunities were good and he attended Bingen Academy, the prep department and College at Ouachita College, Arkadephia, Arkansas, and the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary at Louisville, Kentucky. His conversion took place in August, 1898, and he was baptized into the fellowship of the First Baptist Church of Arkadelphia, Ark., by Dr. Forney Hutchenson. He was licensed to preach by this Church and on December 30, 1906, was ordained by the Ozan Baptist Church of Bingen, Arkansas, by Elders W. D. Cornish, L. M. Byers, L. M. Keeling. T. L. Epton, J. B. Luck, and F. A. Holt. Since that time he has served as pastor of Cadow Baptist Church, Arkadeplhia, Ark., 1907-1908; Dudley Avenue Baptist Church, Texarkana, Ark., 1909-1911; Highland Park Baptist Church, Louisville, Ky., 1912-1915; Russellville Baptist Church, Russellville, Ark, 1915-1918; First Baptist Church, Batesville, Ark., 1919-1925; Third Baptist Church, Owensboro, Ky., since January, 1927. In the years 1918-1919 he served as a Chaplain in the United States Army and was in France for several months where he saw action on several battle fronts with a regiment from Nebraska. In the year 1925 he traveled as a Field Manager for the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and in the year 1926 served as Vice-President of Frances Shimar College. Sometime about 1933 he was given the honorary degree of D.D. from Bethel College in Russellville, Kentucky. Dr. Cagle has served as Moderator of Independence County Association in Arkansas, as a member of the State Boards of Kentucky and Arkansas, as a member of the Board of Trustees of Bethel College, the Ministers' Aid Society of Kentucky, and as a member of the Clear Creek Springs Board of Control. While in college he served two summers as an Associational [sic] missionary. Several young men have entered the ministry under his pastoral guidance. They are: Bruce Price of Russellville, Ark.; Lonnie Meacham of Batesville, Ark.; Marshall Conway, W. Earl Robinson, Eldred Taylor, Robert Lashbrook, Sterling Wornica, Robert Goodman, and A. Renick Dailey, all of Owensboro, Kentucky. Young Dailey is now a missionary in Colombia, South America. The ministry of A. F. Cagle has been mainly evangelistic and large numbers have been added to the membership of the Third Baptist Church as the result. The financial affairs of the Church have also been in excellent condition for the past fifteen years. All debts on building and improvements have been cleared and the Church has added an annex in the purchase of a two-story house next door in which to have a Young People's Department in the Sunday School. Brother Cagle was united in marriage to Miss Flossie Singleton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Singleton, of Hope, Arkansas, on June 30, 1915. Three children were born to this union, Mrs. Annice Elizabeth Tracy, Singleton, and Paul Cagle. Mrs. Cagle is outstanding in her work with the Cradle Roll department of the Sunday School. She has also proven useful in W. M. U., Sunday School, and Training Union Study Course work. Her work is a valuable asset to her husband's ministry.
