Used by permission. [Daviess] DEACON JACOB FRANK BRUNER: Professor J. Frank Bruner, as he is familiarly known, was born on October 11, 1883 at Chambers, in Hancock County, Kentucky. He is the son of John Bayse and Mary Hite Bruner. He has been able to secure a good education. He attended the grade schools of Ohio County, did his high school work in the normal department of the University of Kentucky at Lexington, and received his B.S. degree from the same institution. For some time he also attended the Universities of Chicago and Indiana. For thirty- three years he taught in the grade and high schools of Kentucky. In this time he served as the efficient Principal of the Whitesville School for a number of years. He was converted at the age of sixteen and was baptized into the fellowship of Old Panther Creek Church by Rev. J. Denham Hocker. He has served as Clerk, Deacon, Financial Secretary, teacher in the Sunday School and as Sunday School Superintendent in the different Churches of which he has been a member. He was ordained a deacon by the Calvary Baptist Church, Lexington, Ky., in the spring of 1917, and has served the Hartford, Auburn, and Whitesville Churches in that capacity during the last twenty-six years. He served at one time as the Assistant Moderator of the Association and has served on several important Committees since coming into this Association of Baptists. He was married to Miss Isa Lee Wells of Whitesville, Kentucky, on August 4, 1913. They have one son, Marshall, who is now serving in the armed forces of our country. Professor J. Frank Bruner is a good man and a worthy Church leader and respected by all who know him.
