HUGHES, one of the oldest citizens of this county, has lived all of her nearly ninety years in the Fords Ferry community of Crittenden county. She was born October 23, 1838. Before her marriage to Thomas L. Hughes, she was Miss Eliza A. Williams, a sister of Mrs. Nancy E. Clement. These two sisters are the only living members of a large family of twelve children. Mrs. Hughes never had any children of her own, but reared her niece, Mrs. W.T. Winn, who was the youngest child of E.R. Hill, deceased. Mrs. Wynn [sic] was only four weeks old when she was adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Hughes and lived 24 years of her single life with them. She also partially reared another neice, now Mrs. T.L. Hughes, who lived with her aunt for about ten years. Before her marriage this niece was Miss Emma Williams, a sister of W.R. Williams and Mrs. G.D. Hughes, of Marion. Mrs. Hughes husband, James L. Hughes, enlisted in the Confederate army during the Civil War. Mrs. Hughes now lives at Weston with Mr. and Mrs. W.T. Winn. Altho nearly ninety years old she is still active and is in good health.
