Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 7th ed., 1887, Carroll Co. JOHN S. GAUNT, a prominent lawyer of Carrollton, Ky., was born in Carroll County, November 4, 1850, and is the second of a family of five children born to Alfred R. and Nocisa (Jenkins) Gaunt. John S. Gaunt was reared on a farm, and received a collegiate education at Danville, Ky., where he graduated in 1868. In 1869 he read law under Judges S. H. Jenkins and R. W. Masterson, attended law lectures in 1870, and graduated in 1872. He began the practice of his profession at Carrollton Ky., and in 1873 formed a partnership with Judge R. W. Masterson, at Carrollton, continuing with him until 1886, at which time he was elected commonwealth attorney of the Eleventh Judicial District, which position he still fills. Mr. Gaunt owns 210 acres of well-improved land and is one of the directors of the National Bank of Carrollton. May 9, 1879, he married Miss Charlotte Collins, daughter of W. W. and Margaret B. (Gibson) Collins, of Madison, Ind. One child has blessed this union--William W. Mr. and Mrs. Gaunt are consistent members of the Methodist Episcopal Church South. Mr. Gaunt is a member of the I.O.O.F. in the Grand Lodge at Stanford and Louisville. Politically he is a Democrat.
