Kentucky: A History of the State, Perrin, Battle, Kniffin, 4th ed., 1887, Boyle County. WILLIAM FLEMMING DAVIS was born December 25, 1838, near Camp Dick Robinson, Garrard Co., Ky., where he grew to manhood. In 1869 he located on the old Harrod-Fauntleroy place in Boyle County where he has since resided. His father, Asael Davis Jr., was born April 3, 1787, in Garrard County, was a farmer for many years, was a deacon in the Baptist Church, and died May 3, 1848. He was the son of Asael Davis Sr., a native of Rockbridge County, Va., and an early pioneer and Indian fighter in Kentucky. His offspring were Solomon, Edmund, William, Benjamin, Susan (Baxter), Sarah (Baxter), Martha (Pierce), Margaret (Street), Mary (Irving), and Asael Jr. Asael Jr., first married a Miss Henderson, and their children were Joshua (deceased) and Barbara (Hawkins). He was next married September 11, 1823, to Sarah Balenger, daughter of Robert and Phoebe Tucker, of Lincoln County (born January 26, 1796, died 1862), and from their union sprang Asael B., James H., Elizabeth (Allen), Martha (Burnam), Robert L., George R., John M. and William F. In May, 1869, William Flemming Davis married Miss Hannah E., daughter of John W. and Martha (Smith) Poor, of Garrard County (born March 23, 1848), and to this union have been born John Allen, Ashley McKee and William Barnes. Mr. Davis is a farmer and trader in Boyle County, having 480 acres of productive land. He is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, a member of the Masonic fraternity and of the K. of P., and is also an Ancient Odd Fellow, and a Democrat. His dwelling is the old Fauntleroy home, in which are many portholes made for defense in pioneer days. Near his dwelling are yet visible signs of James Harrod's cabin, and in the yard is the famous spring which attracted Harrod to the place. A few rods distant, near the boundary line between Mr. Davis and Judge Sumrall, stood Harrod's Station, by another spring. The fertility of this land is remarkable after a century of cultivation.
