PIPER, farmer; P. O. Hutchinson. The Piper family were identified with the early history of Nicholas County, being among the early families that located there during the early part of the present century. The subject of these lines was born in Nicholas County, Feb. 17, 1834; son of Samuel C. Piper and Eliza Smith. Samuel was born on the Hinkston, near Millersburg; son of Samuel Piper. Eliza Smith was born in this county; daughter of Alexander Smith. John J. was raised a farmer, which vocation he has followed since he came to manhood's years. In 1863 he came to this county, locating in Hutchinson Precinct, where he purchased a farm, and has since resided thereon. In 1863 he married Frances, daughter of Armstrong Dawson; by her has two children: William H. and Margaret. His father and mother were members of the Presbyterian Church.
