Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 7th ed., 1887, Boone Co. SAMUEL W. TOLIN, a native of Boone County, Ky., was born January 4, 1849, and is a son of James A. and Frances (Hensley) Tolin, natives of Clark and Boone Counties, respectively. William Hensley, the maternal grandfather of our subject, was born in Virginia, and reared in Scott County, Ky. James A. Tolin is a farmer in Boone County, living between Petersburg and Burlington. Samuel W. Tolin was reared on the farm, and was educated in private schools. He entered the law department of the Louisville University in 1878, and graduated in 1879, when he was admitted to the bar, and has since been in active practice. Mr. Riddell was his chief preceptor. In August, 1882, he was elected county attorney, and elected in August 1886. Mr. Tolin has lately married. He is a close student, and a rising young lawyer.
