Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 7th ed., 1887, Boone Co. WILLIAM C. TANNER, deceased, was born in Boone County, July 18, 1855, and was a son of Joshua Z. and Frances J. (Snyder) Tanner, of Boone County. Joshua Tanner is a farmer in Boone County. William C. Tanner was brought up in Florence, and in early life worked on the farm. He attended the common schools at Florence, and afterward finished his education at Cincinnati, Ohio. He started in business when very young, at Florence, in which he continued until July, 1883. His health being bad for some time previous to this, he went to Texas, and remained until May, 1884, when he and his wife returned to Florence. He was a man of more than ordinary business qualifications. His death was a sad blow to the community, as he was beloved by all who knew him. He owned considerable property in Florence at the time of his death, April 22, 1886. In 1864 he built his beautiful two-story frame residence in the suburbs of Florence. December 17, 1879, he married Emma V. Meyer, a daughter of Joseph and Agnes (Hogriffe) Meyer, of St. Louis, Mo. To this union one son has been born: Wallace J. Mr. Tanner was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. His wife is a member of the Lutheran Church. Politically he was a Democrat.
