Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 7th ed., 1887, Boone Co. CHARLES R. SLATER, M. D., was born in Boone County, Ky., January 21, 1860, and was the first of three children born to John H. and Nannie H. (Elliston) Slater. John H. Slater was born and raised in Boone County, where he has followed farming all his life. His wife, Nannie Elliston, was born and raised in Gallatin County, Ky. Charles R. Slater was reared on the farm, and received his literary education at Ghent [sic] County, Ky. In 1878 he commenced the study of medicine with Dr. Samuel M. Adams, of Boone County, and in 1881 he graduated in medicine from the Ohio Medical College, at Cincinnati, Ohio. Soon afterward he moved to Florence, began the practice of his profession, and has been constantly engaged ever since. September 27, 1881, he was married to Carrie E. Baker, a daughter of William H. and Margaret (McManama) Baker, of Boone County. To this union one son has been born--Claude Elliston. Mr. and Mrs. Slater are members of the Christian Church.
