WILLIAM F. McKIM, a native of Missouri, was born November 18, 1845, and
is a son of William and Marietta (Dourexson) McKim, the former a native 
of Scotland, and the latter a Pennsylvanian Quaker.  William McKim died 
on the Mississippi River during the cholera epidemic.  William F. McKim 
has lived in California, Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky.  June 25, 1861, he
joined Company I, of the Second Kentucky Infantry of Union Volunteers,
Joseph Whitlessey captain, and served three years.  He was mustered in
at Camp Clay, Ohio, June 25, 1861, and took part in the campaigns in 
West Virginia, under Gen. Rosecrans.  In January, 1862, he returned to
Louisville, and was ordered to meet Gen. Grant at Fort Donelson; then
returned to Nashville, and took part in all the campaigns under Gen.
Buell.  The Second Kentucky Regiment was part of the Fourth Division,
Army of the Ohio, Gen. William E. Nelson commanding.  He was wounded and
taken prisoner at the battle of Stone River, December 31, 1862, and
confined in Castle Thunder and Libby prison three months, and was among
the last who were exchanged previous to the settlement of the question
"Shall a white soldier be exchanged equally for a black soldier."  In
June 1863, he again joined the regiment at Murfreesboro, Tenn.; took
part in that campaign under Rosecrans; was at the battle of Chickamauga,
and siege of Chattanooga.  He was mustered out at Covington, June 19,
1864.  At the close of the war he went to Decatur County, Ind., and 
farmed until 1867, then engaged in the hotel business for three years. 
In 1872 he engaged in the drug and grocery business in Burlington, Boone
Co., Ky., in which he has since continued.  April 25, 1878, Mr. McKim 
married Florence Rich, a daughter of Samuel Rich, of Kenton County, Ky. 
Two children have blessed this union: Gordon F. and Herbert C.  Mr. 
McKim is a Royal Arch Mason and a Republican.
