Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 7th ed., Boone Co. JOSEPH A. HUEY was born in Boone County, Ky., November 14, 1819. He is the tenth of twelve children born to Samuel and Jane (Mason) Huey. Samuel Huey was born in Virginia. He came to Boone County, Ky., when young, where he has lived and was a farmer all his life. Jane Mason, his wife, was born in Pennsylvania and came to Kentucky at an early date with her parents, who settled in Louisville, afterward moved to Scott County, and then to Boone. Joseph A. Huey was brought up on the farm, and received his education at the common schools. He has followed farming from boyhood, and settled where he now resides in 1872, and has 103 acres of land. He has upward of 400 acres of fine land in other portions of Boone County. In 1841 he was married to Amanda Gaines, a daughter of James and Virginia (Watts) Gaines, of Boone County, but originally from Virginia. To this union have been born five children: Mary M., Paulina, Virginia A., an infant and James A., all of whom are deceased except James A. Politically Mr. Huey is a Democrat.
