OSCAR W. GAINES was born in Boone County, March 17, 1853, and is a son of
J. A. and Martha (Lyne) Gaines.  J. A. Gaines was the son of William;
William was the son of George, and George the son of Harry Gaines, the
great-great-grandfather of Oscar W.  The father of our subject was a
farmer by occupation, was once a member of the Kentucky Legislature, and
for several years was magistrate of Boone County.  Our subject is also a
farmer and magistrate of Boone County.  May 16, 1878, he married Miss
Mary V. Gaines, daughter of Owen Gaines, and by her is the father of
three children, viz: Alberta H., Lyman T. and James Donald Gaines, born
in the following order: October 4, 1879, February 3, 1881, and March 20,
1882.  In religion Mrs. Gaines is a Missionary Baptist.
