RENFROW, M.D., a practicing physician of Sharpsburg, Bath County, Ky., was born in Mercer County, Ky., October 27, 1857. His father, J. B. Renfrow, was born in east Tennessee in 1810, was brought up on a farm, received his education in the high schools, and about the age of eighteen moved to Bath County, Ky., where he taught school for a few years; he then moved to Mercer County, where he married Miss Martha Jones, daughter of Samuel Jones, of Mercer County. Of the children born to their union, four are still living, viz: Cyrus, Lucy, Ryron and J.W. In 1841 he was elected to the Legislature from Mercer and Boyle Counties. He subsequently removed to Bath County, where he made an active race for county judge and was defeated by only a few votes. About 1868 he moved to Henry County, Ky., where he lived until 1883, at which time he moved to Warren County, where he now resides engaged in farming. J.W. Renfrow was reared on the farm and in early life attended the county schools; he subsequently entered college at Eminence, Ky., where he graduated with honor in 1874. In 1876 he commenced the study of medicine with his brother Cyrus J., a very prominent physician now located at Eminence. In 1876-77 he attended the Jefferson Medical College, but graduated in medicine from the University of Louisville in 1878. He began practice in 1879 at Smithfield, Henry County, remaining there until 1883, at which time he moved to Centrefield, Oldham County, Ky., where he practiced about one year; he then located in Sharpsburg, Bath County, where he has since been actively engaged in the practice of his profession. He is an active member of the Presbyterian Church, and politically a Democrat.
