PERRY, a native of Bath County, Ky., was born December 11, 1828, and is a son of Ivison and Sallie (Vannarsdall) Perry. Ivison Perry was born in Versalitlles, Woodford County, Ky., in 1794. He was always engaged in agricultural pursuits, and was regarded as one of the best citizens of his county. He was a son of Elijah and Nancy (Snelling) Perry. Elijah Perry, also a native of Woodford County, Ky., was a son of Lewis Perry. Mrs. Sallie Perry, a native of Virginia, was a daughter of William Vannarsdall, also a native of Virginia, who settled in Bath County, Ky., where he followed farming until his death. Ben F. Perry has always lived in his native county, where he received only a common-school education, though sufficient to transact business in a successful manner. In 1846 he went to Salt Lick, Bath County, and clerked for Levi Fratman until 1856, when he became a partner in the store, continuing in the business until 1862. He then enlisted in the Confederate army, under command of Humphrey Marshall, and since the close of the war he has been engaged in merchandising. June 10, 1885, he was appointed Postmaster of Owingsville, which office he still retains. In 1875 he was made trustee of the jury funds of Bath County, and in 1877 he was appointed notary public of Bath County, which positions he held until appointed Postmaster. He is agent for four insurance companies, viz: North American, of Philadelphia, Pa.; Glens Falls, of New York; Niagara, of New York, and the Phoenix, of Hartford, Conn. Mr. Perry is secretary and treasurer of the Christian Sunday-School at Owingsville, and treasurer of the Owingsville Cemetery. November 1, 1849, he married Miss Eliza J. Barnes, of Bath County, Ky., a daughter of William and Sarah (McClellan) Barnes. Of the ten children born to their union, six are living, viz: William W., Lucy W., Allie A., Woodson P., Turner and Glenn. William W. married Alice Cooper, and has three children: Everett, Ben F. and Rona B. Lucy W. married J.F. Hampton, and had one child, Duke. Allie A. married J.R. Brothers, and had two children, Emily and Lida. Mr. Perry is a deacon in the Christian Church, of which church Mrs. Perry is also a member. Mr. Perry is treasurer of Bath Masonic Lodge, No. 55, and in politics has always been a Democrat.
