Bath County

GEORGE W. GOODPASTER, farmer and stock-grower, was born in Bath County, Ky.,
February 5, 1812.  His father, John Goodpaster, was also a native of Bath
County, and by occupation a farmer.  He married Patience Turner, a native of
Montgomery County, and daughter of William Turner, of Bath County.  She bore
him six children, our subject being the eldest.  Abraham Goodpaster,
grandfather of George W., was a native of Virginia, and an early settler in
Bath County, Ky.  George W. Goodpaster was reared on the farm in his native
county, but at the age of thirty moved to Morgan County and located on a
farm near West Liberty, where he remained until the close of the civil war,
when he removed to Montgomery County and settled near Mount Sterling, and
finally in 1875 removed to his present location in Aaron's Run Precinct,
where he owns 551 acres of well improved blue grass land.  He was married in
1833 to Elizabeth Pieratt, of Bath County, daughter of James and Sarah
(Tipton) Pieratt, natives, respectively, of Bath and Estill Counties.  No
children were born to this union.  Mrs. Goodpaster died soon after marriage,
and about 1835 Mr. Goodpaster married Elizabeth Oakley, of Morgan County,
daughter of John S. and Margaret (Lewis) Oakley, both natives of Morgan
County.  Eight children blessed this union: Richard, Fountain, Nancy Ann,
Clark, James, John, George and Eliza.  The second Mrs. Goodpaster died in
1863, a member of the Reform Church.  Mr. Goodpaster's third marriage was
November 18, 1864, to Elizabeth Amyx, of Morgan County, daughter of Joseph
and Frances (Nickell) Amyx, also of Morgan County.  The birth of four
children followed this union: Peter, Thomas (deceased), Robert and Joseph.
Politically Mr. Goodpaster is a Democrat; his wife is a member of the Reform
Church.
