ALPHEUS G. THOMPSON was born November 18, 1845, in Barren County, about
five miles east of Edmonton, in what is now a part of Metcalfe County.
At the age of ten years he removed with his mother to the vicinity of
Green Park, where he lived until 1870, when he removed to Barren County
and located within about one mile of his present home, and in 1874
removed to his present location. His father, John B. Thompson, was born
about 1797, also in Barren County.  He began life for himself as a stone
and brick-mason, and afterward engaged in farming, which he continued up
to the time of his death.  About five years previous to that time he
was, by the premature discharge of a blast, deprived of the use of both
eyes.  John B. was a son of David Thompson, who was also born in Barren
County, who was a farmer by occupation and of English descent.  John B.
Thompson was married, about 1820, to Frances A., daughter of John and
Frances (Garnet) Burks. From this union sprang Sarah (Barton), Almeda
(Reid), Nathan (who was killed at the battle of Shiloh), Kendrick
(deceased), Alpheus G., George W., Walter D. and Buford W. Alpheus G.
married, November 18, 1869, Emma, daughter of John C. and Sarah
(Campbell) Moss. She was born February 14, 1848.  To them have been born
Sarah F. E., Almeda M., Mary E. and John K.  Mr. Thompson had some
little assistance in starting in life, but chiefly by frugality and
perseverance he has become the owner of 150 acres of excellent land in
good condition and a high state of cultivation, besides one of the most
convenient houses in his section of country.  He is a member, with his
wife and eldest daughter, of the Methodist Church, is among the solid
men of his seciton and politically is a Democrat.
