Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1886. Barren County. WILLIAM E. SCOTT was born January 12, 1824, in Barren County, where he now resides. His father, John Scott, was born about 1797, in Fauquier County, Va. When a small boy he removed with his parents to Kentucky and located in Barren County, where he died in November, 1876. He was a son of Francis Scott, who was also a native of Virginia, and of English descent. John Scott married about 1820, Margaret, daughter of Marion and Zilpah McCarrell, of Montgomery County, Tenn. To this union eleven children were born, of whom William E. is the second. Willim E. married, June 16, 1849, Juda A., daughter of Thompson and Sallie (Wilkinson) Peden, of Barren County. She was born May 8, 1821. To them have been born Henrietta J. (Neighbors), Amanda T. (Dunham), Martha J. (Foster), George W., William E., John T. (deceased), Sallie, Lucy and Dick T. By industry and frugality Mr. Scott has become the owner of seventy-six acres of land. He believes in the doctrines of the Regular Baptists, and in politics is a Democrat.
