MARION PETERSON was born May 17, 1838, in Green (now Taylor) County,
Ky., where he remained (except for one year spent in Missouri) until
1863.  He then removed to Shelby County, whre he remained about eighteen
months, after which he returned to Taylor County, and in 1876 removed to
Barren County, where he now resides.  His father, Raphael Peterson, was
born about 1800 in Marion County, Ky. He is a farmer and now resides in
Taylor County.  He is a son of Garrett Peterson, who was of German
descent.  Ralphael Peterson was twice married.  His first wife, Matilda
Beam, whom he married about 1824, bore him the following children: John
A., Nancy (deceased), William H., James G. (deceased), Eliza (Hill),
Marion, Mary S. (Van Cleve), and Sally M. (Moss).  His second marriage
took place about 1875 with Mrs. Mary L. (Davis) Campbell.  Marion
Peterson married, November 28, 1878, Susan C., daughter of Peter S. and
Martha A. (Evans) Branstetter.  She was born July 6, 1851, and to them
have been born John A., Charley S., Mary E. and Martha A.  Mr. Peterson
was aided in starting in life by receiving a share of his brother's
(James G.) estate, and by persevering efforts has become the owner of
175 acres of well improved and productive land in a fine state of
cultivation.  He is a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church,
which he joined about 1860, and in which he was made a ruling elder in
1868 or 1870 - was ordained by Rev. Thomas Marshall.  He is one of the
active farmers of his neighborhood, and politically is a Democrat.
