Kentucky: A History of the State, Battle, Perrin, & Kniffin, 3rd ed., 1886. Barren County. WILLIAM SIDNEY PARRISH, a native of Barren County, was born March 27, 1839. His father, William Woodson Parrish, was born in Hanover County, Va., about the year 1796, and at the age of eighteen he came to Kentucky, and located in Barren County. He maried Miss Louisa Willis, whose parents came from Virginia, and settled in Adair County., Ky. William Woodson Parrish was for some years engaged in the tobacco trade, which he abandoned later, and turned his attention to farming, which he followed until his death, in 1871. He was a son of Parkes Parrish, a native of Hanover County, Va., who came to Kentucky in 1818; he bought a tract of wild land in Barren County, and cleared up a farm, upon which resided until his death. His wife was a Miss Tisdale, also a Virginian; she was the mother of a large family, twelve of whom lived to be grown. William S. Parrish is the fourth in a family of ten children; he was born and reared on a farm, and remained with his father until he attained his majority, in the meantime receiving a fair common school education. He inherited a small tract of land from his father's estate, which he subsequently sold, and then purchased 160 acres, where he now resides. Mr. Parrish is a model farmer; his land is in good condition, and well improved with fine frame dwelling which he lately erected; also three large barns, and young orchard. He gives some attention to stock raising, but is principally engaged in the culture of grain and tobacco. He has been twice married; first, October 31, 1861, to Miss Margaret Ann, daughter of William and Nancy Rogers, of Barren County; she died March 22, 1875, leaving three children: William L. (deceased), Lizzie B., wife of H. T. Redford, and Sunshine, wife of Eugene Redford. his second marriage occurred June 15, 1876, with Miss Jennie, daughter of J. L. and Martha Smith, of Hart County. To this marriage have been born three children, two of whom, Sidney R. and Annie D. are now living. Mr. and Mrs. Parrish are members of the Christian Church, in which Mr. Parrish has for many years held the office of deacon. Politically he is a Democrat, but takes little interest in politics, his time being given to his agricultural interests.
