CHARLES ALEXANDER MILLIGAN was born March 3, 1822, in Warren County, Ky., where he grew to manhood, and in 1849 he located in Barren County, where he has since resided. His father, Lewis Milligan, a native of North Carolina, removed in infancy with his parents to Kentucky; enlisted in the war of 1812, but was not called into service, and died about 1870, at the age of seventy-six years. He was the son of James Milligan, of North Carolina, a soldier in the Revolutionary war, who died in Warren County about 1840, at the age of eighty-six years. Lewis married Abigail Holder, of Warren County (died 1883, age nearly one hundred years), and their offspring are William, Sally A., Isaac L., Jane, subject, George W., Elizabeth (Pedigo) Prudence (Rhodes), Newton, Silas and Franklin. In youth our subject was favored with a common English education, and is a reading man. He has been twice married, first in 1836 to Miss Arinth, daughter of John Hudson, of Barren County (died in 1847), and to their union was born George, now deceased. The second wife of our subject was Mary J. Perkins (died in 1854), and to them were born Prior, William H., and Mary J. (deceased). Mr. Milligan was next married to Miss Elizabeth Wilson, and from this union there is no issue. He has always been self-reliant, following blacksmithing, successfully for eighteen years. He is now engaged in farming, owning 175 acres of productive and well improved land in a fine state of cultivation. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity, a Baptist and a Democrat.
