GUSTAVUS H. JEWELL was born July 21, 1838, in Barren County, Ky., where
he grew to man's estate and has since resided.  His parents were George
D. and Merena (Fant) Jewell.  (See sketch of J. F. F. Jewell.)  Gustavus
H. has been twice married, first in 1860 to Lizzie E., daughter of
Duncan and America (Jameson) Stark, of Allen County, born in 1840, died
in 1863.  She was the mother of the following children:  Annie L.
(Sears), and Nancy E. (deceased).  He was next married, August 21, 1864,
to Annie M., daughter of Festus and Lucinda E. (Jameson) Stark.  She was
born November 15, 1837, and bore her husband two children:  Elbert F.
and Pernie.  Mr. Jewell is a farmer, owning 500 acres of well improved
and remarkably fertible land.  He is a member of the Masonic fraternity,
a Baptist, and a Democrat.
