In 1815 the first newspaper was published in Glasgow by WM. H. IREDELL. 
It was the Glasgow Patriot.  It was sold out by Iredell to Herbert P.
Gaines, a lawyer who had a short while before come to Glasgow.  The paper
lingered a few years.  It was sustained mostly by doing job work, before it
expired.
	Iredell was a son-in-law of Gen. Spottswood, and a printer.  The office
was in the brick building lately occupied by George Read as a butcher shop.
